revelation of sorts.
12:56 PM

i had reservations about this week when we were talking about it the week before.

having missed the national rounds of law asia, i entered subang on wednesday morning thinking
'what the blooming hell am i doing here at the ciggy spot long before the break of day?'

but it dawned on me (pardon the pun) that something big is about to happen.

i felt it.
at least my spidey senses did.

we- an entourage of taylors' ahem finest would-be-lawyers, dragged our sleep-deprived bums out of bed early wednesday morning to show our faces at the kuala lumpur convention center,
afterwhich came blonde moment number 1:
living next to the twin towers the first two weeks upon landing in the nation's capital some months ago left me no clue whatsoever that this place was literally a stone's throw away from that god-given monument created for women all over the world.

i could sprint to suria klcc in my heels (HAHA) in one minute. now if that isnt impressive shit i dunno what is.

anyway...before i stray too far off topic, some of us sakai-ed our way through the floors, but we're lucky to be guided by maureen among others. the freshies were only there the night before.
they knew the place.
sort of.

i had bailiff duty for the day; was assigned to moot court 402 and didnt know what to expect;
cue blonde moment number 2:
what does a bailiff do anyway?
i never recalled paying much attention to alex when i was busy arguing with mun onn at my first moot to see what he was doing.
two teams were up against each other- india and the phillipines, arguing points with regard to a dispute between the governments of donavale and those of burgandan and foudalin.

i messed up the first time around thinking i didnt pronounce the stupid names correctly. but i thought 'oh well' when i heard the phillipino delegates do their own versions of it.

while we're on the subject of their twang, i must confess i have never heard ultra vires being said in a hotter way. and dont get me started on the male captus bene detentus ... ooo
f.y.i paulie, since you like making fun of pinoys so much, you should have seen these mooters.
brains + grace + class.
they were a m a z i n g.

the ladies from india were good. but boy did they talk fast. i found it hard to keep up.

two NUS boys came by later. benedict and alywin. the former very calm, controlled, also very graceful with the latter being a piece of work. he was so cute with a mouthful of metal and trunkful of gusto.
he even bitched at nep:

-"you singaporeans. all the same. wanna complain about me? complain la!"-
-"shut upppppp...! i know how to send an email!!"-

lunch- predictably ruined by the host school, was spent in the food garden.
LJ wasnt happy.
in fact there were a number of unhappy campers.

lara, doing what she does best.

apart from a moment where the time bell did a three sixty and made a phillipino mooter go white, everything went well.

day two was where the excitement picked up. LJ noticed a serious piece of eye candy, in the form of an american/indian mooter.
whoa nelly.
dont get too excited. i was too occupied with flashing timecards and deliberately striking the bell fullforce to take a picture of him.

they got beaten bad by the couple from hong kong though. deanna law was a joy to watch.

but the day went to the newly christened mr. 'fantastic', christopher ocampo of the phillipines.
with nothing in front of him but the judges, he took to the podium and made the lawyers i saw at the magistrate courts look like a babbling, bumbling bunch of babboons.
his eruditeness was simply incredible.

i saw badawi in the flesh, just several feet away. that evening, he appeared to be a rather simple, light-skinned, very cute old man who just happened to be flanked by an army of bodyguards.

like us, he was there for the opening ceremony of the convention, where a show with drums coupled with brave, clever words ended the day with me coming home with a newfound sense of respect for a man i thought of less before, having been reminded by him of a holy verse:

"If you do judge, judge between them justly. God loves the just.(Qur'an: 5:42)"

pak lah. squint a little and you'll notice him on the bottom left hand corner, in front of the row of flags.

we were dead beat by the end of the day.
zili dozed off next to me on the way home after asking a barrage of questions and posing for the camera... as usual ;)

tzl

ahmed "i'll KILL you!" :p

when it came time for the final day of the moots, people were undoubtedly pumped to have among the panel of judges gopal sri ram and the nice chap who caused the whole problem, myint zan.
i dont suppose any of the four mooters knew what was coming.

when it seemed as though they'd be beaten to a pulp, these kids fought back.
hard.

deanna law of hong kong.
the figure in the middle being justice gopal sri ram.

it was madness.

time was extended just when it started what with the judges leaving no holds barred; it kept the audience well entertained.

ernest ng, who did an amazing job.

izzie, the timekeeper, had it rough too. i'm glad she did well.

the second session came just half an hour later, since the gaffers took ages to drill the mooters one by one. the hype died down a bit, making my job relatively easier than izzie's.

the team from hong kong did brilliantly well. it is strangely sad to note that only one team will come out of this comptetion as winners, for i am of the opinion that both have done something not many of us, as students ever get to do:
inspire others to aim higher, push harder, and go further.

coming home to taylors today saw me stumbling upon a very old friend.

i was behind a freshie as the bus door opened. when he jumped off, i saw valentio febrio looking up at me from the steps of the bus.

there he was.

'joseph&hisamazingtechnicolourdreamcoat'/'dudewhosingslikejoshgrobanlikenobody'sbusiness'

it happened fast and loud.
-"OH MY GOD!"-
-"VALEN!!"-
like a couple of girls, we ohmygod-ed and kissed and found out that we've both been studying at the same place for quite some time now.

taylors isnt so small afterall.
